We are very proud to acknowledge that we are supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. People’s Postcode Trust is a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Our project received £19970 from the Trust to help with our Stepping Out Scheme
Young people who go to college after school are often part of full time course that only have activities on two or three days so at Gateway North East we run a Stepping Out Programme to support these young people for the days that they are not in college. It is available to young people who have a disability or a barrier to learning and those who would like to work with young people with a disability.
If you are over 18, then you are able to apply to enrol on the scheme. If successful you will gain valuable qualifications and life skills, including:
- Performing arts
- Math skills
- Monetary skills
- Computer skills, including using IT equipment in an office environment
- Independent living, including meal preparation, using public transport, doing housework and personal hygiene
- Employment skills, including teamwork and working independently
You will also be assigned a mentor who will support you every step of the way and answer any questions that you may have. Our mentors have had training and previous experience working in similar environments and will encourage you as much as possible.
The Stepping Out Programme involves lots of young people learning and working together, taking small steps to employment, and having fun while doing it.
Would you like to be part of our Stepping Out Programme?
Stepping out also happens during school holidays where young people are encouraged to learn new independence skills.
